Senate Economic Growth Committee advances bill to bring further tax relief to troubled Atlantic City
Members of the Senate Economic Growth Committee quietly released a bill today that would further efforts to assist a financially-strapped Atlantic City, where a shrinking property tax base has had lawmakers and local officials scrambling for solutions in recent months. S2645, or the “Atlantic City Growth Tax Credit Program”, would encourage construction of non-rental housing homes in Atlantic City by granting developers who build new, owner-occupied residential projects a tax credit for construction costs, including demolition, capital improvements and land acquisition. The program is meant to more evenly distribute the city’s property tax burden, where three-quarters of residents are renters.

Governor Christie signed a law Friday to update New Jersey's corporate tax incentive programs, one that includes a bid to do more to help Atlantic City as it struggles after recent casino closures. Atlantic City will now be designated as a “Garden State Growth Zone,”
EPA Invites Communities to Apply for Assistance to Build Resilience, Pursue Revitalization
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today invited communities to apply for technical assistance to implement smart growth development approaches. EPA is offering this technical assistance through the Building Blocks for Sustainable Communities program to help communities across the country, including underserved communities, coastal communities, small cities and rural areas, adopt sustainable growth strategies.
The program aims to increase resilience to natural disasters and strengthen the economy while protecting human health and the environment. The Building Blocks program provides quick, targeted technical assistance to communities using tools with demonstrated results and widespread application.
