Michael Sylvester, Treasurer

Mike Sylvester joined Whitman in January 2005. As Senior Vice President, Mr. Sylvester is responsible for the financial performance of the company and maximizing corporate operations and use of resources. In addition, he is also responsible for the overall management of Whitman’s business development and daily business activities. Mr. Sylvester has over twenty-three years of public/private sector experience in the environmental industry and is recognized on both National and State levels as a leader in Brownfields. He has also provided high-level technical, financial and strategic consultation on matters involving investigation, remediation and redevelopment of commercial and industrial properties..

Mike has over 20 years of public/private sector experience in the environmental industry and is recognized on both National and State levels as a leader in Brownfields. He has provided high-level technical, financial and strategic consultation on matters involving investigation, remediation and redevelopment of commercial and industrial properties.

Prior to joining Whitman, Mike was Program Manager of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s Brownfields Redevelopment Office where he administered various Brownfields financing programs. Earlier in his career, he held senior management positions as Vice President of Excel Environmental Resources, Inc. as well as Vice President of TRC/Vectre Corporation.

Mike holds a B.A. in Business Management and Marketing from Upsala College and is licensed by the New Jersey Real Estate Commission.

In addition to his post on the board of EDAJ, Mike serves as a board member for several organizations, including the Environmental Business Council (EBC) of the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ); the EBC’s Site Remediation Reform Act (SRRA) subcommittee; and, the National Brownfield Association (NBA).

Mike is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys spending time with his family, golfing and traveling. He currently resides in Bridgewater with his wife, Joyce and teenage son, Ryan.
